The Catholic Church in Lee and Stubbington is a Stewardship Pilot Parish within the Diocese of Portsmouth.
Pope Benedict XVI said "The promotion and practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent and treasure."
Stewardship is our response to all God's gifts and in particular to Jesus. It is He who gives us our mission as church. That mission, as it was for Jesus as priest, prophet and servant is three-fold:
To pray
To challenge
To care
In other words:
Scripture, prayer and the Sacraments
Outreach and mission
Hospitality, community, pastoral action
Our Parish is the community called to this mission. All are gifted in this community and for mission to be fruitful all the gifts need to called out and made active. Together we make up the Body of Christ.
We trust in the Holy Spirit but we also recognise the need for human organisation to make this mission more powerful. For this we need a Parish structure that enables, encourages, educates and seeks to renew. This is the shared responsibility of priest and parishoners.
We are called to be the salt and leaven in society. The motivation for this process is always the belief that the world needs the Gospel and we are called to make it known in the most effective way for our time and place.
