The Catholic Parish of Lee and Stubbington was formed in 2003 when Bishop Hollis made the two former parishes of Lee and Stubbington into one.
Lee on the Solent Parish
Mass was first celebrated in Lee on the Solent in 1916 in an army hut. After the war in 1918 the hut was given to Portsmouth Diocese and the Parish of St. John the Evangelist was established. It was served by Gosport from 1916 to 1919 and from 1929 to 1932. Mass was first celebrated in the current building at Christmas in 1980. The Church Hall was added to the front in 2002.
Stubbington Parish
The Parish was founded in 1969 and the land was purchased in Bells Lane at a cost of £17,000. As there was no church Mass was celebrated in Hammond Hall. The Church Hall was designed by John Newton and constructed in 1975 at a cost of £37,000. From 1976 to 1985 Mass was celebrated in the Church Hall. The Church, designed by Diocesan Architect John Wingfield, was added in 1985 at a cost of £226,000.
